Bill Paxton was born on 17 May 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas, United States of America. He is the son of Mary Lou (nee Gray) and John Lane Paxton. His father had been occasionally into acting, he was also a businessman, a lumber wholesaler and a museum executive. Bill studied at the Sir Francis Drake High School, San Anselmo in California. He later attended the Texas State University and then moved to Los Angeles.
He started working as a set designer in Los Angeles for a director Roger Corman. From here, he thought of acting and went to New York City to pursue a career in acting. He studied with Stella Adler in New York.
He is the husband of Louise Newbury and they both have two children, James and Lydia.
He has appeared as the sneering older brother “Chet” in ‘Weird Science“, as “Fred Haise” in ‘Apollo 13′, and “William Hudson” in ‘Aliens‘. He has also acted in ‘Near Dark’, ‘True Lies‘, ‘Titanic‘, and in the block buster ‘Twister‘. He has done marvelous acting in ‘One False Move’. He is the only actor whose character has been killed by an alien in ‘Aliens‘, a predator in ‘Predator 2′ and a terminator in ‘The Terminator’. He appeared in a cameo role in ‘Terminator 2′.
His film ‘Ghosts of the Abyss’ is related to his expedition to the actual wreckage of the Titanic, and it was released in 2003. His other acting venture include ‘Crazy Mama’, ‘Impulse‘, ‘Commando’, ‘Brain Dead’, ‘Back To back’, ‘Indian Summer’, ‘The Last Supper’, ‘Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams’, ‘The Greatest Game Ever Played’ and ‘Big Love’.
He has also directed the films ‘Frailty‘ and ‘The Greatest Game Ever Played‘. He has directed a short film named ‘Fish Heads’.
He was one of the members of short-lived rock duo Martini Ranch, and the other member was Andrew Todd, a vocalist/guitarist. They formed it in 1988. They released an album ‘Holy Cow‘ in which Mark Mothersbaugh, Bob Casale and Alan Myers (all are the Devo members) contributed to the hit “How Can The Labouring Man Find Time For Self-Culture?”. Cindy Wilson was a back up vocalist and Judge Reinhold, an actor has credited as a whistler on “Reach“.
He was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 2007 and 2008 for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television series - Drama for his role in ‘Big Love’. In 1999, he earned the nomination for the same award in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV for ‘A Bright Shining Lie’. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast for his role in ‘Apollo 13′, and he earned the nomination under the same category for his role in ‘Titanic‘ in 1998. He was a nominee for several other awards in different categories and he won some of them.
